DILI, 29 november 2022 (TATOLI)- Coordinator Scaling Up Nutrition Global Coordinator (SUN) Verga Verburg praised the leadership of President of Republic, José Ramos Horta and Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak on their upstanding commitment to investing in Nutrition and food security in Timor-Leste.

Gerda Verburg said The purpose of meeting with the President of the Republic is to discuss nutrition and food security which means building people’s physical condition and also brain development for children and young people.
“We had a meeting with the President of the Republic to praise His leadership for investing in Nutrition and Food Security,” The global coordinator of the scaling up nutrition (SUN) movement, Verga Verburg told Journalists at President’s Palace, Aitarak Laran, this tuesday.
She acknowledges that social and economic development is important for the country’s development in the future.
After 20 decades Timor Leste built a country with peace and democracy, therefore it is time to fully focus on human capacity development and also guide Timor-Leste for social economic development and prosperity for all people.

The discussion with President focused on three priorities including the first thousand days of a child, exclusive breastfeeding and the last is recognizing all collective groups’ very much outstanding investment in nutrition and food security.
The president of the Republic, José Ramos Horta suggested organizing the Pre-Scalar Food feeding system.
This program is guiding children until they fully respond to the first thousand meal days, and while their cognitive brain is well developed and has physical potential.
The Coordinator of Global scaling up nutrition (SUN) Verga also on the same day met Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak in Government Palace and focused a discussion on Scaling Up Nutrition.
“It is great appreciation for the Timor-Leste government on its commitment to investing in nutrition and food security. The government of Timor-Leste is focused on the prevention of hunger,’’ She added
Mrs. Verga Verburg has considered the Prime Minister a big champion of action and planning for the implementation and strengthening of health care centers, exclusive breastfeeding, and school feeding program for the community, villages, and school level.
She thanked the Government for continuing to invest in human capital and social economy development.
PM Taur also appreciated the youth’s innovative and creative ideas and is proud of the part of collective efforts to improve the nutrition system in Timor-Leste.
So far, Timor-Leste has become 65 members since becoming a SUN global movement member country in last 2020.
