UNDP and the Embassy of Japan handed over a renovated office to STAE

DILI, 01 december 2022 (TATOLI)- The Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Munkhtuya Altangerel, and Charge d’Affaires of Japan’s Embassy, Kazumi Yamada handed over renovated office assessable by people with disabled people to the Office to Minister of Technical Secretariat For Election (STAE).

Speaking at the handed-over ceremony, UNDP Resident Representative in Timor-Leste, Munkhtuya Altangerel appreciates the honorable moment of handing over this office to the Minister of State Administration for the upcoming parliamentarian Election.

“UNDP is provided technical assistance through Resilient CORE-TL project conducted renovation work for seven STAE offices located in Dili, Baucau, AInaro, Bobonaro, Liquica, and Luatem,’’ UNDP Resident Representative in Timor-Leste, Munkhtuya Altangerel said on her remarks, at Caicoli, this Thursday

Each office is designed to secure accessibility for people with disabilities equipped with ramps, and accessible toilets including of washing hands station for hygiene and covid-19 prevention: “So today we officially handed over a renovated office to STAE through the Minister of State of Administration (MoSA) in Dili,’’ she explained

“The office will facilitate the political access of all people including people with disabilities. It will increase voter turnout and promote an inclusive election and eventually enhance the democracy in Timor-Leste,

Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan for Timor-Leste Kazumi Yamada said Japan is proud to fund the renovation project implemented by UNDP and the Government of Timor-Leste.

“We are proud to fund this renovation project, implemented by UNDP, along with the government of Timor-Leste. The office will support the free and fair election in the cornerstone of democracy, and funding this project is indeed a symbol of friendship between two strong democracies and two countries of the rising sun, as we commemorate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between japan and Timor-Leste,’’ She explained

The General Director of STAE, Alcilino Branco thanked Japan for its generous and supportive partners.

“I also appreciate cooperative partnerships with UNDP to promote inclusive and informative election at national and municipal levels in Timor-Leste,’’ Mr. Branco appreciated.

The renovation office is green with the design and function to mitigate disaster risk and any adverse environmental impact. It is also included of Underground water tank pad, rainwater harvesting, and a compatible floor.

According to the plan, UNDP and Japan Embassy will also hand over the STAE offices in Baucau, AInaro, Bobonaro, Liquica, and Luatem to the Government.

The construction and renovation of this office are funded by Japan’s Embassy in Timor-Leste amount of 18.000 USD while for six new offices construction projects worth 1.4 million USD.
