DILI, december 05, 2022 (TATOLI) – New Japanese ambassador Kimura Tetsuya committed to strengthening cooperation with Timor-Leste in various sectors.
Ambassador Kimura Tetsuya said his statement today at the ceremony of handing over his credential letter to the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos Horta at the Presidential Palace, Aitarak Laran Dili.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Julião da Silva, revealed that after the handing-over ceremony, the Japanese diplomat expressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Timor-Leste in various sectors.
“At the presentation of credentials, the President of the Republic and the new Japanese ambassador discussed the continuation of bilateral relations, especially assistance from the Japanese Executive for economic development, the Greater Sunrise oil field, as well as assistance for the accession of Timor-Leste to ASEAN”, da Silva told the media, at the Presidential office, Dili.
Silva informed that Ambassador Kimura Tetsuya had worked at the Japanese Embassy for 20 years. “therefore Ambassador Kimura Tetsuya is familiar to Timor-Leste already,” he said.
The official added that during the 20 years of diplomatic relations, the Government of Japan assisted Timor-Leste in agricultural development through the partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, granted scholarships to young Timorese and infrastructure development, through the International Cooperation Agency of Japan (JICA).
