DILI, 13 december 2022 (TATOLI)-European Union Ambassador met the President of the National Parliament (PNP) to hear about the achievement of 2022 legislation before the 2023 parliamentary election.
The new Ambassador of UE in Timor-Leste, Marc Friedrich said this meeting is to learn a little bit about the achievement and challenges of the collaboration between the European Union and the Timorese Parliament.
‘’It is extremely important, particularly for a young nation like Timor-Leste to set the institutional framework, as what the Parliament does. Parliament is a key institution for any country and particularly for a young country like Timor-Leste,’’ Ambassador Marc Friedrich told journalists at the National Parliament, this Tuesday.
With the discussion going on, Friedrich also said that the EU is expected to provide support in some fields composed of financial and promoting women parliamentary and also other important areas that need to maintain.
While he also said that it is important to look out for the different proposals that come out with activities that engaged with those proposals.
“European Union will not make the recommendation of those proposals should say but expects that Timorese people should engage with the proposal and make sure the proposal can be further developed,” he said.
So far the previous parliamentary election in Timor-Leste was held in 2017 meanwhile the next parliamentary election was scheduled to be held in 2023.
