DILI, 14 december 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Secretariat of State for Arts and Culture (SoSAC) supported the construction and rehabilitation of 27 traditional houses across the country.
More than US$81,000 was allocated by the government of Timor-Leste to support the construction and renovation of the 27 traditional houses in the municipalities of Aileu, Liquiçá, Bobonaro, Manufahi, Covalima, Atauro, Lautem, Manatuto, Viquque, and RAEOA.
The support was given to promote and preserve Timorese traditional houses.
“This year, financial support was given for the construction and rehabilitation of traditional houses in the municipalities of Aileu, Liquiçá, Bobonaro, Manufahi, Covalima, Atauro, Lautem, Manatuto, Viquque, and RAEOA. Meanwhile, four municipalities, including Ermera, Díli, Ainaro, and Baucau, were not included in the list to receive the fund, since they already got the fund last year,” said the National Director of SoSAC, Gil Paulino Oliveira, today at the Díli Convention Center.
The financial support is varied and given based on the proposal of the communities. The financial support for the inauguration is US$1,500, for rehabilitation is US$2.500, and US$3,500 for new construction,” Oliveira said.
He said that to receive financial support, communities should submit their proposal to be evaluated by the selection committee.
“The communities need to describe a brief history of their traditional house, budget description, and the construction and rehabilitation schedule to be selected to receive the financial support,” Oliveira said.
He said the proposal to build modern traditional houses would not be selected to receive the budget.
Last year, the government supported the construction and rehabilitation of 20 traditional houses in Baucau, 18 in Ermera, and 12 in Ainaro.
