Timor-Leste and Japan discuss cooperation in various sectors

DILI, 19 december 2022 (TATOLI) – Japan’s New Ambassador, Kimura Tetsuya, met Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Adalzija Magno to discuss new partnerships in various sectors.

During the meeting, the two diplomats highlighted the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries which have existed for 20 years, and the possibility of continuing to explore and expand cooperation through interpersonal approaches and in other potential sectors.

“The two sides discussed ways to further enhance the multifaceted bilateral cooperation, particularly in terms of connectivity, labor mobility, capacity building, infrastructure, economic diversification, social services, and vocational training,” said in a statement published by the TL’s Foreign

The Japanese Ambassador further stated that as one of the development partners, Japan is committed to continuing to support and assist Timor Leste in developing its country.

During 20 years of diplomatic relations, the Government of Japan has provided assistance for agricultural development in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, provided scholarships to Timorese youth, and supported infrastructure development through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
