More than 200,000 families receive a 13-month pay subsidy

DILI, 20 december 2022 (TATOLI) – More than 200,000 households have received the 13-month pay subsidy of US$200, said the Director General of Administration and Finance of the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MoSSI), Rui Exposto.

“To date, the MoSSI team has made the payment of the US$200 subsidy to 208,619 families, equivalent to 61.4%, with an amount of US$41 million,” he said.

Exposto said that some beneficiaries from the villages of Becora, Vila-Verde, Bairro-Pité, Manleuana, Comoro, Fatuhada, Madohi, and Bebonuk have not yet received the subsidy. 

Meanwhile, most households in the municipalities of Manatuto, Baucau, and Lautém have already received the subsidy.

Exposto acknowledged that MoSSI will not conclude the payment on december 23, as some families are not yet registered in the system for the payment of the subsidy.

So far the distribution of the 13th-month payment subsidy was launched on december 6, 2022 in Dili and december 12, 2022 in all municipalities.

The distribution was made after the proposal of the 13th month’s payments subsidy was promulgated by the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta on november 16, 2022. 

According to number 2 article 1 of Law Number 37 of 2022 May 2020, the distribution of subsidies aims to support the economy of the most vulnerable families.  

The government has made available around US$67 million for the payment of the subsidy, While the household data from the Ministry of State Administration (MoSA), around 400,000 Timorese families will benefit from the subsidy.
