DILI, 05 january 2023 (TATOLI) – Keshavarz Shalom Farm has invested over US$100 million in poultry breeders and hatcheries in Timor-Leste.

Keshavarz Shalom Farm Director, Ayub Joseph Karimi said the US$100 million investment is to help develop the poultry industry in the country.

“We hatch chicks, duck, and turkey. So, we actually distribute between 100 and 500 chicks to small poultry farmers in the municipalities, which are intended for both commercial and meat production,” Karimi told Tatoli.

He said the investment was aimed at increasing local production and preventing the import of frozen chicken from other countries.

The Keshavarz Shalom farm currently produces more than 8,400 chicks per month in Hera, Dili.

“And more than 2,000 baby ducks would be raised in Hera as well,” Karimi added.

“Every day, we are harvesting about 10 to 30 local chickens and 5 to 10 turkeys. We sell them to different supermarkets in Dili, including WFour, DiliMart, Ciara, and Lita-Store. The local chicken costs between US$10 and US$22 each, and one kg of turkey costs between US$15 and US$18,” Karimi explained.

Keshavarz Shalom Farm has established its branches in Maubara and Loes, in Liquiça Municipality, and another branch in Lautem.

Keshavarz Shalom Farm planned to establish its catfish farm in the near future.
