DILI, 06 january 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, asked the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) to support Timor-Leste in the fight against poverty and malnutrition.
Horta said that Brazil has good experiences in the fight against poverty, hunger, and malnutrition: “Brazil is one of the largest food producers in the world.”
“We have asked ABC to support us in anti-poverty programs. Because we want to ensure food security, elimination of child malnutrition and sustainable agriculture in the country, which would lead us to achieve our goal of becoming a food self-sufficient country in the next five years,” Horta said in a statement.
ABC’s Director, Ruy Pereira also briefed President Horta on the implementation of important programs for combating poverty and malnutrition which has been monitored by the World Food Program (WFP) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF).
Pereira said ABC has implemented its first food security program in Atabae Administrative Post, Bobonaro Municipality: “We provide technical training which is important to ensure food security in the country.”
During the meeting, Pereira also shared with President Horta about Brazilian National School Feeding Program (NSFP).
