DILI, 13 january (TATOLI) – Commission A of the National Parliament (PN), which deals with matters of Justice and Constitution Affairs, has already scheduled the public hearing on the amendment to the Electoral Law for next month.
“We have scheduled the public hearing on amendments to the Electoral Law for next month. Government, political parties, electoral bodies, and civil society would participate in the public hearing,” Chairman of Commission A, Joaquim dos Santos said via phone.
He said Parliament will accelerate the approval of the amendment of the law before the general elections.
However, Santos did not explain in detail the content of the amendment to the electoral law.
The Government approved, on 3 august 2022, the fifth amendment to Law 6/2006, of 28 december, which approved the Electoral Law for the National Parliament.
The amendment to the electoral law aims to integrate a number of new regulations implemented in the 2022 Presidential Election.
The new rules include the establishment of 13 parallel polling centers in Dili for voters from each of the 13 municipalities can cast their votes in the next general elections.
