DILI, january 18, 2022 (TATOLI)- Non-governmental organization (NGO) Timor Aid confirmed that Lautem local authorities have offered one hectare of land for the cultivation of cotton and other seeds that benefit the production of Tais.
Timor Aids Council member and Cultural Technical adviser, Maria Lopes Da Silva said Timor Aids had conducted consultations with six municipal authorities in 2022.
“We have carried out consultations with six municipal authorities in 2022. Municipality of Lautem offered one hectare of land for Tais conservation and we are currently waiting for a response from RAEOA, Oe Cusse, ” Maria Lopes Da Silva told Tatoli at the Timor Aids office, Bairru Dos Gurillos, this Wednesday.
Da Silva also said that several groups in the municipality will start planting the tree species used to produce Tais and that Timor Aid will also coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to provide tree seedlings to be planted.
“Tais’s seeds consist of cotton, palm, jackfruit, mango, and others. The tree planting process will be carried out between July and August 2023,”
Silva also said that so far Timor Aid has been supporting women’s groups to preserve Tais.
“Timor Aids supports women’s groups in each municipality to maintain the authenticity of Tais from each municipality. The group has 270 members, from Baucau, Covalima, Bobonaro, Viqueque, and Oe-Cusse,”
