DILI, 26 january 2023 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new building of the pediatric and Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU) of the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HGNV).

The 5-storey building will be constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and supervised by the Indonesian company, PT Bennatin Surya Cipta.

“I believe that the launch of this building is important in the country’s history, as it modernizes health infrastructures. I would like to request the company to construct the building in accordance with the set plan to meet the deadline. But it is also important to ensure high quality,” Ruak made the comments at the launching ceremony, at HNGV, in Dili, today.

Ruak acknowledged the company’s capacity with regard to the construction of the building.

The Health Minister, Odete Belo, also said that the construction of the new building would take two years, adding the new facilities will accommodate 327 beds with 81 midwives and 163 nurses.

The five-story building cost around US$9.3 million from the State Budget.

The construction of the unit is to improve specialized quality care provided at the HNGV for hospitalization of emergency cases and pediatric urgency.

It will also improve the national response to sporadic and emerging outbreaks of dengue, cholera, and other outbreaks with major public health impacts, particularly among newborns, children, and adolescents.
