DILI, 06 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament today approved in generality the 5th amendment to the Electoral Law for the Parliament,
“The 5th amendment to the Electoral Law was approved with 38 votes in favor, 13 abstentions and zero against,” the President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Guterres Lopes, said at the House of Parliament, today.
The fifth amendment to Law 6/2006, of 28 december, includes the incorporation of a number of innovations, such as the introduction of postal voting, the extension of polling station opening hours, the creation of three parallel polling voting centers in the capital Dili, and allowing journalists to vote wherever they cover the elections.
Guterres said that the discussion on the specialty of the law will take place within two weeks after the approval of the law in generality.
“The discussion on the specialty of the law would help the President of the Republic to decide the electoral calendar for the next parliamentary elections,” Guterres said.
