DILI, 07 february 2023 (TATOLI)- The Minister of Foreign Affair and Cooperation (MoFAC) through the Department of Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) and the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs (MCAE) hold the Capacity Building Programme to over 60 beneficiaries from relevant Ministers about the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Joaquim Amaral, said the Capacity Building Programme (CBP) is conducted under the cooperation of the ASEAN Secretariat Technical Mission to Timor – Leste to empower the beneficiaries of AEC to relevant Ministries as one of the preparations when Timor – Leste become the full member of ASEAN in this year
“This training aims to familiarize Timor – Leste with the Capacity Building Program and to familiarize Timor – Leste with the institutional arrangement and mechanism to oversee and coordinate the technical preparation of accession to post-accession work and implementation of the ASEAN economic agreement,’’ Joaquim Amaral told reporters in Timor – Plaza, Dili on tuesday.
Minister Amaral call on the participant of the Capacity Building Program to take this opportunity to focus on the subject introduced which is conveyed by the ASEAN Secretariat Technical Mission to Timor – Leste by gaining the science of AEC for use in the future when Timor – Leste become the full members of ASEAN.
At the same place the Director of the ASEAN Division of MoFAC, Timor – Leste, Milena Rangel, said this Capacity Building Program is focused on Trade, Goods, and services, how to adjust the alignment of the law of trade in ASEAN.
“The Capacity Building is very crucial to be done in Timor – Leste, as one of the preparations when Timor – Leste become the eleventh full member of ASEAN. This training is focused on the Trade, Goods, and services to the beneficiaries from inter–ministerial in Timor – Leste, besides this AEC training also focused on the private sector because the private sectors are an important pillar in running the economic activities in Timor – Leste,’’ she said.
The training facilitated by the ASEAN Secretariat Technical Mission to Timor – Leste for 3 days from 7- 9 February and get financial support from Asian Development Bank.
The 60 participants composed of participants from, the Coordinating Ministry of Economic, Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Commerce, and Industry, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Secretariat of State for Training Vocational and Employment, Central Bank, Custom Authority, National Petroleum and Authority, TradeInvest and Business Registration and Verification Service (SERVE) including the Private Sector in Timor – Leste.
