DILI, 09 february 2023 (TATOLI) – Director General of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), Acilino Manuel Branco said the establishment of parallel voting centers in municipalities depends on the decision of the National Parliament.
“We hope that the proposal for the implementation of the parallel voting centers in the municipalities will be approved by Parliament. But I think it would be much better to implement it first in Dili. If it is successful, then we can extend it to other municipalities,” Branco told TATOLI.
He said the establishment of parallel voting centers would be considered in the discussion of the Parliamentary Committee A before bringing it to the Plenary Session.
The establishment of parallel voting centers aims to facilitate citizens who cannot vote in their home municipality due to education, work, and health reasons.
“Of course, now our focus is on establishing parallel voting centers in Dili to ensure that people from other municipalities can vote in the upcoming elections,” said Branco.
One of the criteria for the establishment of parallel voting centers is that there must be at least more than 100 voters to vote at the centers.
