Over 300 farmers benefited from the HAFORSA project of CARE in Atsabe

DILI, 10 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The Representative of CARE to Timor – Leste, Yoko ITO said “Hasa’e Fornesimentu Sistema Bee ba Agrikultura (HAFORSA) Project” had benefitted over 300 farmers in Atsabe, Municipality of Ermera.

“We support 12 farmers groups in Ermera Municipality, sub administrative post of Atsabe in four Villages such as; Laubonu, Obulo, Leimea Leten, and Batumanuu, which have about 300 members. Our purpose of the project was to increase horticultural production, to increase Women members’ influence on decision–making in their farmer groups as well as to increase numbers of women in leadership roles,’’ said the Representative of CARE, Yoko ITO to TATOLI at the Embassy of Japan in Kampung Alor, Dili on friday.

She added from the HAFORSA project Farmer groups are producing different kinds of vegetables, such as tomatoes eggplants, and lettuces.

“These local food products are consumed by the farmers and sold to school feeding programs and sell at the local market to sustain their family and contribute to the growth of the economy in Timor – Leste, and gradually the farmers are increasing the production. In this year we wish to ensure that all farmer groups can continue planting vegetables and do the maintenance of water supply systems independently even after our project period,’’ she said.

In this opportunity, Yoko ITO on behalf of CARE Timor – Leste, thanked the Government of Japan through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan which has been supporting CARE‘s project since the implementation of the first phase of HAFORSA from 2016 to 2019 and currently implementing HAFORSA 2 and it will be the 3rd year of 3 years project.

“I appreciated their continuous support of grant US$ 310,269 for our projects to enhance the farmer ‘s economic resilient in the future,’’ she concluded.
