DILI, 15 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), Adaljiza Magno said that the staff of Timor-Leste’s consulates and embassies abroad will be trained by the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), and the National Electoral Commission (CNE) in preparation for the introduction and implementation of postal voting for Timorese citizens living abroad to vote in the next general elections.

Magno said that conducting voting from abroad for Timorese citizens living overseas would be implemented by Timor-Leste’s diplomatic mission, especially embassies, and consulates.

“It is necessary to train our staff members before conducting voting from abroad. Therefore, STAE will conduct training for our diplomats and staff members to implement postal voting,” Magno emphasized.

Recently, the National Parliament passed the 5th amendment to the Electoral Act for Parliament, which includes the introduction of postal voting.

The Minister of State Administration, Miguel de Carvalho said earlier that the introduction of postal voting aimed to increase the participation of Timorese citizens living abroad in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
