UNDP provides 600.000 USD to implement a Blue Economy in TL in 2023

DILI, 28 february 2023 (TATOLI)- United Nations Development program provided financial support worth 600.0000 USD to implement the blue economy program in Timor-Leste in 2023.

The country representative of UNDP in Timor-Leste, Mahktuya Altagere said UNDP provides 2023 some amount of budget to implement programs activities in ocean-based and land-based programs to contribute to the bleu economy in Timor-Leste.

“The money will be allocated to different programs involved the participation of Timorese youth to contributing in ocean-based and land-based activities,’’ Country Resident Representative of UNDP in Timor-Leste, Mahktuya Altagener told TATOLI Agency in Coffi Anan conference room, Caicoli, this tuesday.

She said UNDP identified 60% of youth prefer to involve themselves in ocean-based activities that much highly international commercial Value production in the sea, such as cultivating seaweed products in Atauru Island, and it is possible to expand to other coastal areas.

While 40% of young Timorese intended to work in land-based focused on Agriculture sectors which contribute to green Agriculture which can be contributing to economic diversification and also avoid climate change in Timor-Leste.

Land-based programs will be implemented this year 2023, in Oeccusse Ambeno (RAEOA), Baucau, Ermera, Bobonaru, and others, the program involves youth entrepreneurship groups to ensure the program will be benefited the Timorese people across the country.

“UNDP will provide technical assistance for the young Timorese groups in coordination with the local agriculture in ocean-based and land-based to carry out the programs implementations result in the positive outcome.’’ She added

It is required more support from the relevant line ministries to ensure the ocean-based and land-based programs will give a positive impact on the country’s economic diversification and also climate change issues.

For this program, UNDP provided 300.000 USD for ocean-based and 300.000 for land-based worth 600.000 USD.
