ICRC commits to strengthen cooperation with TL on humanitarian assistance

DILI, 01 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Timor-Leste in the field of humanitarian assistance. 

The commitment was made in a courtesy meeting between Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno, and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Spoljaric-Egge, in Geneva, Switzerland. 

“Minister Magno and Spoljaric-Egge expressed their commitment to strengthen and expand cooperation between Timor-Leste and the ICRC in the field of humanitarian assistance and capacity building, including on international humanitarian law for government officials and law enforcement personnel,” it said in a statement. 

During the meeting, both dignitaries exchanged ideas on regional integration (ASEAN), labor migration issues, global crisis, ICRC’s key roles and challenges in addressing global humanitarian crises, universal rules and values, the principle of humanitarian assistance and neutrality, regional security, and future chance in providing training on the implementation of relevant international humanitarian treaties that have been ratified by Timor-Leste.

At the meeting, Minister Magno was accompanied by the Timor-Leste Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office, Lurdes Bessa, Director-General for Multilateral and Regional Affairs, Licínio Branco, and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of TL, Carlos de Araújo.
