Gov’t distributes the certificates to the partners of tourism development in Timor – Leste

DILI, 02 march 2023 (TATOLI)- The Government of Timor – Leste, through the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs (MCAE) today distribute the certificate to the partner who has been providing the technical support for the development of the tourism sector in Timor – Leste.

The Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Joaquim Amaral, said the development of tourism can be achieved based on the international development partner‘s support in Timor – Leste, therefore, the Government through the MCAE wishes to recognize their support by distributing the certification.

“We have achieved the tourism sector in Timor – Leste, where the Government through the inter-ministerial together with international development partners composed of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) World Bank, and the New Zealand Government through its Embassy in Timor – Leste, They have contributed toward the progress of tourism sector through the technical assistance support in developing the program of Tourism for All, Community Tourism, promote Timor – Leste destination tourism to the international world, support the technical assistant in finalizing the mapping list of destination tourism in all municipalities in the across the Timor – Leste. On their support, we decide to distribute the certification of appreciation to them in recognizing their work on the process of the development tourism sector in Timor – Leste,’’ Minister of MCAE, Joaquim Amaral told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Pantai Kelapa, Dili on Thursday.

The Minister of MCAE, Joaquim Amaral, explained the sector of tourism is very crucial to develop in Timor – Leste to diversify the economy of the people and to sustain the economic growth of the country in the future.

At the same place, U.S. Chargé d’ Affaires Tom Daley said since 2021, the Commission in partnership with USAID and the World Bank Group, considered the establishment of a Tourism Marketing and Promotion Board; supported new public-private partnerships; developed the Atauro Sustainable Management Plan; and drafted the Tourism Demand Study.

“As USAID’S Tourism for All Project nears its end, it is an opportune time to celebrate the many shared successes that have emerged from our partnership. The United States has proudly supported Timor-Leste’s efforts to expand sustainable development while increasing tourism, including through the protection of cultural heritage and supporting new public-private partnerships at Cristo Rei and Dili Port. Ultimately, this will lead to better economic opportunities for the Timorese people.” said U.S. Chargé d’ Affaires Tom Daley.

He added as Timor-Leste invests in its inclusive and sustainable national tourism strategy, the country is emerging as a true destination for adventure travelers and eco-tourists. The United States is a proud partner of Timor-Leste’s efforts to expand sustainable development while increasing tourist visits that lead to better economic opportunities for the Timorese people.
