CCITL – KSTL and ILO working together to pay attention to the workers in Timor – Leste

DILI,08 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor – Leste (CCITL) together with the Confederation Syndicate Labor of Timor – Leste (KSTL) and International Labour Organization (ILO) today held a meeting to discuss the platform of working together to look the fate of Timorese workers in Timor – Leste.

The President of CCITL, Jorge Serano, said the purpose of this meeting was to formulate the platform for working together with KSTL and ILO to strengthen the communication to find the solution to the problem faced by the Timorese workers in their working place.

“CCITL is the umbrella for all companies and entrepreneurship in Timor – Leste, and employed some Timorese workers, therefore we wish to work together through the communication platform to pay attention to the fate of workers when they face the problem with their employer,’’ the President of CCITL, Jorge Serano, told reporters in his office Acait, Dili on Wednesday.

The President of KSTL, Almero Vilela, said, KSTL and CCITL will form the platform with the online application to facilitate the decent workers’ data and also will work together to empower Timorese youth through the capacity building training especially the training of entrepreneurship to facilitate the job seeker to find the job.

“During this time KSTL facilitated the workers to solve their conflict with their company owners in SEFOPE to find the solution because sometimes, some companies fired the workers without justification. based on this experience KSTL and CCITL will cooperate well to solve the conflict between employers and workers.,”

At the same place, the Employment Specialist of ILO in Timor – Leste, Diego Reis, called on employers to apply the applicable law of labor in Timor – Leste and request the CCITL and KSTL to work together to accomplish to find the solution.

“ ILO is willing to cooperate with CCITL and KSTL to provide training in the various aspect to prepare the skills of Timorese youths to find jobs in Timor – Leste, and committed to facilitating the platform of online application to maximize the communication between KSTL and CCITL in accomplishing the conflict between companies and workers,’’ he concluded.
