CNE asks the Muslim community to participate maximum in the 2023 Parliamentary Election

DILI, 09 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the National Election Commission (CNE), José Agustino Belo, asked the Muslim community in Timor – Leste to fully participate in the 2023 Parliamentary Election that will be held on May 21.

“Today we held a meeting with structural Muslims to share the idea and ask them to participate in the 2023 Parliamentary election to increase the electors’ vote, and besides that will socialize the mechanism of election to the student of High School in Masjid An-Nur in the short term,’’ the President of CNE, Jose Belo told reporters at the Masjid An-Nur, Kampung Alor, Dili on thursday.

The President of CNE, José Belo, revealed, as the citizens of this country, everyone has the right to elect their political party to represent their voice to decide to develop the country .

“Timor – Leste has no compulsory election law but as good citizenship, we have to contribute our vote to one of the parties to have the legitimacy to develop the wellbeing of Timor – Leste,’’ he said.

At the same place the Top Leader and the Founder of Masjid An-Nur, Haji Abdullah Said Sagran, said Timorese Muslims is very a minority in Timor – Leste but always contribute the suffrage several the election ago.

“We cannot force the Muslim community to participate in the election but, we believe that the Muslim community will democratically give their vote, therefore the structure of Muslims in Timor- Leste will advise the Timorese Muslims in the national territory to participate a maximum of the Parliamentary ‘s election which will be held on 21 May of 2023,’’ he said.

In this opportunity, on behalf of the Muslim Community in Timor – Leste, appreciate, the CNE ‘s initiative to meet all religious leaders to talk about peace and the mechanism of socialization in the parliamentary ‘s election aiming to increase the number of electors in the election.

“On behalf of the Muslim community in Timor – Leste, I thanked the structural of the CNE which visited us to share the information about the election and we committed to working together with CNE to promote peace and also to increase the electors’ vote toward the Parliamentary ‘s election in Timor – Leste,’’ he concluded.
