DILI, 10 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor – Leste (CCITL) Rui Castro, calls on the Timorese People to buy their daily needs from local produces or local businesses to boost the country economy.

“More than 80% of Timorese invest in a business in Timor – Leste, such as opening the restaurant, supermarkets, and small shops same to other businesses opened by foreigners in this country, but recently many local businesses chose to close their businesses because they receive small income and many Timorese prefer to spend their money on international supermarkets, which make the country economy unstable,” the Vice President of CCITL, Rui Castro told reporters at the CNC‘s Office, Balide Dili on Friday

According to Castro, Timorese people have the ability and the knowledge to open the business in productive areas such as agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, and other production areas, however, none can compete with International entrepreneurs that open their businesses in this country.

“The competition of investment and business is not seen from the financial sectors but the success of the business activities depends on the demand. International businesses in Timor Leste can survive because we are actively spending our money on them and the money will not circulate inside the country, will not support the local produces or businesses at the same time will not help the economy grow in the country,”

At the same time, Castro also acknowledged the weakness that comes across the Timorese business mostly in their behavior or service toward the clients which is needed to improve to increase their business income.

“Timorese people know how to do the business but one thing that they need to improve was their attitude on how to serve the client politely and properly, therefore CCITL will provide them the hospitality training to help them attract more clients,” he said.
