DILI, 14 march 2023 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) Adajiza Magno, met today with Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to discuss Timor-Leste’s preparation for the upcoming Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) summit to be held in São Tomé and Príncipe.
“I met with Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to discuss our preparation for the 14th CPLP conference that will take place, in july this year, in São Tomé and Príncipe,” Minister Magno told reporters, in Dili today.
Magno said the foreign ministers of the CPLP countries will hold a meeting in Luanda to discuss the activities planned for the upcoming summit.
CPLP executive secretary Zacarias da Costa said earlier that the meeting between CPLP leaders is necessary to discuss the goals and preparations for the summit.
São Tomé and Príncipe’s Foreign Minister Alberto Pereira has previously confirmed to Zacarias da Costa that his country is ready to host the next summit.
Hosting the upcoming CPLP summit marks the first of Sao Tome’s chairmanship of the organization.
The last CPLP summit was held on july 17, 2021, in Luanda, Angola, coinciding with the date that marks the 25th anniversary of the creation of the CPLP, on july 17, 1996.
Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste are the nine member states of the CPLP.
