South Korea committed to supporting Timor – Leste’s accession to ASEAN and WTO

The Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) of the Republic of Korea, KIM Chang Beom

DILI, 16 march 2023 ( TATOLI) – the Republic of South Korea committed to supporting Timor-Leste’s accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and World Trade Organization.

The commitment of the South Korean Government was revealed by the South Korean Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, KIM Chang Boem, at the meeting with Timor-Leste’s President of Republic, José Ramos Horta in Dili.

“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Korea, I stated that the Republic of Korea fully supported Timor – Leste’s accession to ASEAN and WTO. We are committed to supporting the Government of Timor – Leste’s existing necessities,” the Special Envoy of the Republic of Korea, KIM Chang Boem told the reporter, after meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affair and Cooperation (MoFAC)of Timor – Leste, Adajiza Magno at the office of MoFAC, Pantai Kelapa, Dili on thursday.

KIM Chang Boem, also revealed, in the meeting with Minister Magno that South Korea will support the Capacity Building and Technical Assistance related to the role of ASEAN and WTO.

” We will discuss this requesting with the Government of the Republic of Korea and after that, we will send the experts of ASEAN and WTO to come to Timor – Leste to provide technical assistance and Capacity Building to the relevant ministries before Timor – Leste ‘ s accession to ASEAN and WTO in the future,” he concluded.
