EU provides financial support of 1 million EUR to ChildFund to implement SSCP in Liquisa Municipality

Liquica, 23 march 2023 (TATOLI)- European Union (EU) provided financial support worth EUR 1,111,109 or 1,210,775 USD to ChildFund Timor Leste to implement the Strengthening Social Cohesion (SSCP) Project in Liquisa.

EU Ambassador for Timor-Leste, Marc Fiedrich said European Union is pleased to work with ChildFund Timor-Leste and other local NGOs to promote peace and strengthen social cohesion for youth in Municipality.

“EU provides financial support for this project with the main objective to make sure of youth in Liquica municipality to constructively engaged with their culture and societies. So they understand how to contribute to conflict prevention at society level,” The Ambassador of the European Union, Marc Fedrich told journalists at, the IADE meeting room, Liquica, this Thursday.

He added that this project helps youth to use culture for the prevention of conflict and it is usefully required in generation time.

This project brings a positive role for youth in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Youth change makers will learn how to use creative methods, such as theatre and civic journalism, express their voices constructively, and explore how they can engage constructively with local and traditional leaders on matters that affect them.

ChildFund Timor-Leste Country Director, Erine Dijkstra said this SSCP project with the support of the European Union, in coordination with the Ba Futuru and Bun NGO: “This project will help to enhance youth comprehensive of conflict solution, through cultural manner,” She explained

“In the Liquica municipality, youth are frequently perceived to be conflict creators. Stakeholders have expressed concerns about the increased participation of youth in Martial Arts groups that promote violence and an increased number of violent incidents in schools. We will work closely with youth-focused CSOs, school children, teachers, local government officials from village to municipality level, traditional leaders, and religious leaders,” said Erine Dijkstra, country director of ChildFund Timor-Leste.

At the same time, The executive director of Belun, Luis Ximenes said Belun is a Local NGO that will support ChildFund Timor Leste implanting this project of conflict solution and peace-promoting.

Belun recognized that Liquica and Bazartete areas conflict based therefore, it requires an effort through the cultural manager for conflict solutions.

“We will use cultural manners such as Tara Bandu and “Nahe Biti bot’’ roll out the mat for conflict solutions. We are working closely with the community leaders and traditional leaders to talk for peace and ensure the proper life for all community,” he explained

This project will be implemented in two administrative posts composed of Liquica and Bazartete post administrative.

This project is funded by European Union worth 1,111,109 EUR and this project will be carried out for 2 and half months.
