DILI, 29 march 2023 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak has encouraged Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, João Paulo da Costa Rangel, to strengthen diplomatic relations with the UK.
João Paulo da Costa Rangel was appointed as Timor-Leste’s first ambassador to the United Kingdom since the country gained its independence in 2002.
Ambassador Rangel was grateful for the opportunities provided by the Government and the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta.
“Prime Minister Ruak encourages me to fulfill my diplomatic mission responsibly in order to protect the Timorese residing and living in the United Kingdom,” Rangel told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak in Governmental Palace, on tuesday.
Rangel, therefore, said he would cooperate with relevant entities during his term as a diplomat in order to support all Timorese citizens living in the UK during his three-year diplomatic mission. Rangle is scheduled to leave for the UK next month.
Every year, hundreds of Timorese leave for the UK as migrant workers in search of employment, giving Ambassador Costa the huge task to look after these Timorese citizens.
