ASEAN will give  the assessment result  of the Timor-Leste’s Roadmap in May 2023

DILI, 10 april 2023 (TATOLI)- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno, said the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will give the results of the assessment of Timor – Leste’s Roadmap in May 2023.

“Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN has been evaluated through a Roadmap in which ASEAN delegates from the Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) consisted of the three pillars of ASEAN such as the Political Security Community (APSC), the Economic Community (AEC), and the Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) had conducted an assessment of the application for Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN on November 2022 and the results of the Roadmap’s evaluation of the achievement of Timor-Leste’s development progress will be given by May 2023,” Minister Magno told reporters at the Ministry of Finance, Aitarak- Laran, Dili on monday.

Minister Magno, explained that currently, Indonesia is in the ASEAN Presidency, and it is hoped that Timor – Leste will become a full member of ASEAN during the Indonesian Presidency this year.

“We hope that all the results of the roadmap through infrastructure development assessments and various areas which are carried out by FFM through the site visits will bring the hope for Timor – Leste to become a full member of ASEAN in the Indonesian ‘s Presidency,” she said.

Minister Magno, highlighted admission of Timor – Leste to become the 11th member of ASEAN will soon be realized in 2023, but if Timor – Leste has not been admitted as a full member of ASEAN in 2023, Timor – Leste will continue to prepare itself and will ready to discuss together with all ASEAN members to be admitted as the 11th member of ASEAN in the next few years.
