DILI, 11 april 2023 (TATOLI) – The South Korean Government, through its Embassy in Dili, invited the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, to participate in the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, in South Korea.

“I am here to invite the Head of State to participate in the Jeju Forum in South Korea,” Ambassador Shin Mantaek said at the President’s Palace, in Dili, today.

He said the meeting was also important to set the agenda for the meeting between President Horta and the South Korean head of state.

“We were also discussing with President Horta to arrange the agenda for his meeting with President Yoon Suk-you on the sideline of the Jeju Forum,” Mantaek said.

The Korean Embassy in Dili will inform President Horta about the fixed date for the meeting after an official confirmation from Seoul.

Meanwhile, President Horta said it was an honor for him to be invited to participate in the forum, which is vital for the promotion of peace.

At the meeting, Ambassador Mantaek and President Horta also talked about setting a date for a ceremony to hand over the materials given by the largest South Korean company, Samsung Group.

These materials included necessities such as clothes and shoes which the President himself promised to deliver to rural communities.

“I will accompany President Horta during the delivery of these materials to rural communities in the country,” Ambassador Mantaek said.

Mantaek expressed Korea’s commitment to continue supporting Timor-Leste in capacity building and training, in order to prepare Timor-Leste for its full membership of ASEAN in the future.

President Horta requested Korean Embassy in Dili to support the health facilities in Dili to improve health service delivery.

“Korea is committed to walking alongside Timor-Leste now and in the future in providing assistance to support Timor-Leste’s national development,” he concluded.
