DILI, 17 april 2023, (TATOLI)- President of Republic, José Ramos Horta, and Minister of Health Odete Belo together with development partners United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO) inaugurate the breastfeeding room in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) Dili today.
During the ceremony, President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta said Timor-Leste should invest more in the health of children to ensure a bright future for children.
“We need to invest more in the health of newborns through breastfeeding and nutritive foods to make sure they live a healthy life,” President of Republic, José Ramos Horta said in his remarks.
At the same place, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MANEC), Adaljiza Albertina Dos Reis Magno said it is great to support and provide technical from UNICEF to establish the breastfeeding room in the MNEC office aims to help MNEC women staff to provide Brest feeding to their babies while they are working in the office.
“I delivered my child in last 2006, and it was a very difficult situation to provide breastfeeding for my baby at the time. Today, MNEC got support from UNICEF with technical support to establish the breastfeeding room to help MNEC staffs women to have the opportunity to provide breastfeeding to their baby,’’ She explained
She added that this project helps the Ministry of Health and Development partner to ensure all Timorese babies should have their first breastfeeding which can be impacted people’s healthy life.
UNICEF Country Representative, Bilal Durrani said UNICEF is committed to supporting Timorese women by providing proper breastfeeding to babies.
“UNICEF plays important role to ensure Timorese children live a healthy life and accessed Education, Health, and other vital programs that support the development of children’s brains and ensure the welfare of children in the future,’’ He said
