DILI, 19 april 2023 (TATOLI)— Government of Brazil through the Brazilian Permanent Representative to the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), Juliano Nascimento, presented the ‘Ordem de Rio Branco’ award to CPLP Executive Secretary, Zacarias Albano da Costa, on April 18, 2023, at CPLP headquarters, Portugal.
“The Executive Secretariat of the CPLP, Zacarias da Costa, had an outstanding achievement, like few others, in qualifying for the ‘Ordem de Rio Branco’ award,” said the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the CPLP, Juliano Nascimento in a statement seen by Tatoli from the CPLP Secretariat, this Wednesday.
Juliano Nascimento recalled that his broad and successful academic and professional career, always guided by humanitarian action, and supporting constructive dialogue between nations, was an undeniable honor.
In this term, Zacarias assumed the role of Secretariat at a very challenging time. Because at the same time facing the double task of reforming and modernizing the CPLP as well as overcoming the difficulties that have arisen as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and various geopolitical tensions in the world.
In the performance of the task, with his mastery and expertise, he paved the way for the CPLP to reach important consensuses and approve important institutional advances in the growth and enhancement of the Portuguese-speaking community.
“Because of the affection he has for Brazil, Mr. Zacarias is also continuing the important work of bringing the people of Brazil and Timor-Leste closer together, who are two brother countries, united by language and history,” he said.
Juliano Nascimento said Brazil recognizes the success and long career of Executive Secretary Zacarias Albano da Costa, who has worked with competence and diligence to strengthen the bonds of friendship between TL, Brazil, and all Portuguese-speaking countries for many years.
Meanwhile, in July 2021, at the XIII Conference of CPLP Heads of State and Government, in Luanda, Zacarias was elected Executive Secretary of the CPLP organization.
Zacarias da Costa visited the State of Brazil twice for the celebration of the Bicentennial of Independence of Brazil, in September 2022, and the inauguration of the President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, in January this year.
