DILI, 04 may 2023 (TATOLI)— Representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Secretary of State Youth and Sports (SoSYS) signed a cooperation agreement to implement the YEES project aim to increase young Timorese capacity in the business sector.
The signing of the YESS (Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Skills) Project to increase the capacity of young people in the business sector was carried out by UNDP Representatives in Timor-Leste, Munkhtuya Altangerel and SEJD, Abrão Saldanha in the SEJD Dili hall, this Wednesday.
Altangerel said the YESS project was signed to increase the capacity building of Timor-Leste’s youth in the business sector such as Training of Trainers (TOT) for Soft-skills training for young people, Career guidance, Entrepreneurship training, financial management and business network and mentoring.
“It is my pleasure to join you in the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNDP and SEJD on joint activities to use SEJD Youth Centers in all municipalities,” said Munkhtuya Altangerel in her remarks.
According to Mrs. Altangerel, the purpose of the agreement was to provide integrated support to young people, especially in the field of employment and entrepreneurship.
“The signing of this MoU marks our official commitment to jointly maximizing each other’s resources, complementing each other in advancing the empowerment and capacity of youth in Timor-Leste,” She explained.
In addition, the UNDP Representative emphasized that SEJD, with its strong presence in the field, will assist UNDP to carry out activities and technical knowledge related to youth.
“With this support, we hope that young people in all regions will have access to the project, so they can establish their businesses and financial support to develop businesses, have access to legal support for business registration, and we can work together to build innovative entrepreneurial models, as well doing research together” he explained.
She also added that UNDP would complete the infrastructure at SEJD and provide Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment.
Meanwhile, SEJD, Abrão Saldanha highlighted the importance of this collaboration saying, this collaboration will increase the capacity of young people in the business sector across Timor-Leste.
“The total budget for the implementation of this program is $ 8 million,” he said.
Meanwhile, he added that the YESS project was implemented in the Municipality of Dili, specifically in Comoro, Ermera, Liquiçá, and Baucau.
