DILI, 23 may 2023 (TATOLI)- The Election Monitoring Mission of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (MOE- CPLP) and the network of jurisdictional bodies and Election Administration (MOE -ROJAE) assessed that the elections were in accordance with international standards and requirements.

“Considering the observations, the two missions considered that, from an organizational point of view, the election took place in accordance with international standards and requirements, accepted and fundamentally, in accordance with and complying with the rule of law of East Timor,” Head of EOM – ROJAE, at a press conference, at Hotel Novo Turismo, Dili.

Cristina Leite, who is also Vice President of CNE in Cape Verde, said that the team had the opportunity to follow the entire voting process, noting that it proved “reliable” with no complaints that might compromise the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.”

MOE-ROJAE consists of thirteen observers, all of whom are technicians from jurisdictions and election administration bodies of CPLP countries, namely Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Principe.

To follow suffrage, the elements are divided into six groups and highlighted by the municipality of Dili, Aileu, Ermera, Liquica, and Manatuto.

In the same place the head of the MOE-CPLP, José Marcos Barrica, observed polling places were well-identified and easily accessible by the voters, and had materials and conditions suitable for their operation, ensuring the secrecy of the vote.

“The voting process took place in an orderly manner, in a peaceful atmosphere. Council members ensure, with impartiality and professionalism, adherence to voting procedures, as well as voter clarification and priority given to voters with special needs,” said José Bariccca at Novu Turismo.

The CPLP mission also highlighted the number of young people among the members, as well as the high number of women which accounted for 48% in the places observed by TPS.

“The EOM-CPLP considers that any possible omissions will not affect the integrity of the electoral process, nor will it impact the timing of the results. We consider that this election took place in accordance with the principles of democracy and political rights enshrined in the constitution of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, in accordance with the applicable electoral rules and line with international reference practice,” concluded.
