Australian Embassy and CPA held  the  integrated disaster management workshop in Timor – Leste

DILI, 05 june 2023 ( TATOLI)– The Embassy of Australia through the Defense Cooperation Program – Timor – Leste ( DCP- TL) and Timor – Leste Civil Protection Agency (CPA) today held the workshop of integrated disaster management workshop for three days in Timor – Leste. 

Major Allon Carter, Australian Defence Cooperation Program, Timor – Leste, said this workshop aims to enhance Timor – Leste capacity to prepare for and respond to natural disasters by strengthening civil-military cooperation in Timor – Leste.

“This workshop is to support the development of national Civil – Military – Police capabilities to prevent, prepare for, and respond more effectively to conflict and disaster. We support best practice approaches to Civil – Military – Police engagement by those involved in the strategic planning and delivery of conflict and disaster and management activities in Timor – Leste,” Major Allon Carter told reporters in Timor Plaza, Dili on monday.

He explained that another objective of this workshop is to set the scene for the workshop with a particular focus on coordination challenges during disaster preparedness and response in Timor – Leste, drawing on experiences and lessons identified and learned from disaster preparedness and response recent operations.

At the same place the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Joaquim Gusmao appreciated this workshop and thanked the Australian Embassy and DCP- TL for the sharing of the knowledge and science of integrated disaster management with the staff of CPA, the member of Timor – Leste National Police ( PNTL), Timor – Leste Defense Force ( F- FDTL how to handle the natural disasters quickly in Timor – Leste.

“On behalf of the Government I thanked the Government of Australia through its Embassy in Timor – Leste together with the Defence Cooperation Program Timor – Leste and the Australian Civil-Military Centre ( ACMC) which had been supported in tackling the natural disasters in Timor – Leste,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Integracy disaster management workshop will take place from 5 – 7 of june. The workshop participants include representatives from the Timor – Leste Protection Authority, PNTL, F- FDTL, and a number of Civil Society Organizations in Timor – Leste.

This workshop is supporting Timor – Leste’s Disaster Management Framework and further strengthens the close Australia – Timor-Leste relationship.
