DILI, 08 june 2023 ( TATOLI)– The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports ( SSYS), Abrão Saldanha, has outlined that the International Federation of Football Association ( FIFA) will build two international standard soccer fields in Timor – Leste.
“The FIFA delegation has met with the State Secretariat of Youth and Sports and discussed the development of football in Timor-Leste. During the meeting they agreed to build two soccer fields in Timor-Leste, namely the Dili football field and the Xanana Sports Center with international standard qualifications,” said Saldanha to TATOLI in his office, Lecidere, Dili, Thursday.
He explained that the construction of the Dili football field and the Xanana Sports Center would be realized based on previous negotiations conducted by SSYS and FIFA two years ago.
“The technical team from FIFA is already in Timor-Leste to analyze the Bill of Quantity and the designs for the two football fields which have been finalized previously. After the data verification is complete, FIFA will open a tender to start the construction of two football fields that are said to be of international standard,” he said.
The purpose of constructing the two soccer fields is to help Timor-Leste develop a soccer game for use in future international soccer competitions.
“I thank FIFA on behalf of the Government, for the initiative to develop football in Timor – Leste and recommend to the new government to continue this process and work with FIFA to realize this development,” he concluded.
