DILI, 9 June 2023 (TATOLI) – The Director of Interim Consular Affairs and Timorese Communities, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) in Timor-Leste, João da Costa Braz, informed that the Governments of Brazil, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States of America accepted the use of a Timorese passport with an extension stamp.
“We have already received responses from the seven countries on the measures taken by the government of Timor-Leste. Now we are only waiting for the response from other countries before we have sent the diplomatic notes. We hope that they will soon present a positive response to facilitate the travel of our citizens”, informed Tatoli, in Pantai Kelapa
João Braz also informed that after the adoption of this measure by the Government, until now, several Timorese citizens have made visits to Indonesia and Malaysia, without any interference by the immigration authorities of the two countries.
He added that the board sent a diplomatic note to the UK Government, as thousands of Timorese immigrants are currently working and studying in that country. Stating that “no response from the British Executive so far”.
It should be remembered that last week, the Government of Timor-Leste received a positive response from the Governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia regarding the temporary measure of extraordinary extension of the validity period of the electronic passport.
So far, last May 2023, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia also welcomed Timor- Leste to use passports with extension stamps.
