MCAE and MTCI held the first CONFAC meeting of TWG to align Timor- Leste to WTO

DILI, 09 june 2023 ( TATOLI)– The Ministry of Coordinating of Economic Affairs ( MCAE) and the Ministry of Trade Commerce and Industry (MTCI) today held the first National Commission of Commerce Facility (CONFAC) meeting of Technical Working Group (TWG) for aligning Timor – Leste to the World Trade Organization ( WTO).

The Minister of MCAE, Joaquim Amaral, said this is the first meeting of CONFAC to reunify the Technical Working Group that had helped the MCAE and MTCI in the elaboration of the legal framework, the national Single windows, the role of the international commercial and the trade information portal.

“The CONFAC was established in 2016 through TWG from the ministerial line, under the MTCI and MCAE. CONFAC elaborated the legal framework, the mechanism of the utilization of national single windows, the implementation commercial’s role, and provide the trade information portal to the businessmen on how to access and align the commercial activities in the WTO. This meeting is also to reunify the ministerial line to prepare the TWG, how to continue to work well with the new government in commercial activities to engage with the WTO in the future,” the Minister of MCAE, Joagim Amaral told TATOLI in Timor Plaza, on friday. 

At the same place the Chief of CONFAC, Flavio Ximoes, said by this meeting CONFAC wishes to invite all Technical Working Groups from the related ministerial to conduct a meeting and evaluated what achievements have been made and continue to share the constructive idea to collaborate with the new Government to work effectively in aligning the Timor – Leste’s commercial to the WTO in the future.

” Expected that all the preparation which CONFAC had done, such as, creation of the legal framework, implementing of national single windows, pre-launching of information portal will help to facilitate Timor – Leste ‘s private sector and the businessmen to access the activities of commercial by using the information of technology ( IT) to engage in the commercial activities when Timor – Leste become the full member of WTO in the future,” he concluded.
