DILI, June 13, 2023 (TATOLI)—The National Institute of Science and Technology (NICT) together with the National Research and Innovation Agency (NRIA) from Indonesia discussed cooperation in science and technology, especially in digital repository training and the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN).
NICT official website wrote the discussion regarding the cooperation agreement was carried out by the chairman of the NICT Executive Board, José Cornélio Guterres, and the Deputy for Human Resources for Science and Technology, Edy Giri Rachman Putra on 30 May 2023 in Jakarta.
“The purpose of the discussion was to update the MoU between NRIA and NICT, as well as initiating cooperation in the Degree by Research program and agreements in training in the field of digital repository training and ISSN,” wrote the statement.
It also stated that NICT’s mission is to promote scientific and technological progress in Timor-Leste, having opportunities to explore NICT in all scientific and technological domains with its potential to achieve the highest international standards in knowledge development, increase dissemination and implementation as a key factor of development and improvement of public welfare.
Since March 2023, the Indonesian Directorate of Repositories, Multimedia, and Scientific Publishing (RMPI) has been holding internal coordination meetings and communicating with NICT.
The meeting was to prepare technical matters and other things that were deemed necessary to facilitate requests for training and comparative studies for NICT technical staff in terms of how to build systems, operations, and management of repository and ISSN systems implemented at BRIN to later be implemented in Timor Leste.
It is known that NICT Asia Center is the overseas dispatch office of NICT in Southeast Asia. The Center Promotes collaborative activities in the ICT R&D field with Southeast Asian Countries along with the NICT’s international harmonization policy. The center carries out the following major activities such as:
– Operates stronghold basis research projects in Southeast Asia Where local advantages on research work can, be applied.
– Conducts collaborative research projects on a fresh and timely subject with the organization concerned.
– Organizes seminars and workshops regarding recent high technologies.
– Assists in seminars and workshops regarding recent high technologies.
– Assists effective application of advanced research facilities such as high-speed internet networks.
– Promotes bridging assistance in applying research resources and products of NICT for ICT research needs in Southeast Asia countries.
Accordingly, ARC strives to deepen collaboration with ICT research organizations in the region and contributes country’s growth by leading advanced ICT R&D.
So far, NICT is Timor Leste’s national science and technology institute which was established on September 3, 2014.
