Australia appreciates the leadership of PM Taur in the 8th constitutional government

DILI, 15 June 2023 (TATOLI)—The Australian Government through the Australian Chargé d’Affaires at DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), Caitlin Wilson today met Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak and thanked Prime Minister for the cooperation during his leadership in the eighth Government.

“I am with my colleagues just have a farewell called with the outgoing Prime Minister, and we wanted to thanked for the cooperation and reinforce the really strong partnerships between Timor-Leste and Australia, we look forward to continuing the partnerships with the government,” explained Caitlin Wilson at the Government Office, this thursday.

During the meeting, Caitlin Wilson also brought messages from Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Penny Wong on the value of partnerships between Timor-Leste and Australia.

“I wanna pass from our foreign minister the value that we place on our partnership with Timor Leste, we are close friends and neighbors and we have some very strong basis to continue to work together very closely, we share number of common visions and we are looking forward to the continuation of relationships,”

She explained that the Australian Government has provided support to Timor-Leste in various fields such as developing human resources, especially in the health sector, and social development through the bolsa da mãe jerasaun foun program.

In addition, there is support in the economic sector to strengthen economic resilience at the national and municipal levels, agriculture, infrastructure, and other sectors.

Caitlin Wilson believes that the Australian Government is committed to supporting the new Government in any field and of course, must know the priority programs needed.

“After the formation of the 9th Government, we are ready to cooperate. We are ready to meet with the new Prime Minister and we are ready to hear their priorities to bring success to their leadership,” she said

The Australian government itself has been active in providing scholarship opportunities and opportunities for Timorese workers to work in Australia through the PALM (Pacific Australia Labor Mobility) Scheme.
