Parliament approved a vote of condolences for Isabel Ferreira

DILI, 19 june 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament anonymously approved this monday a vote of condolences for the death of Isabel Ferreira, wife of the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak who passed away on june 18, 2023.

MP, Domingos dos Santos, from the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), remembered Isabel Ferreira as a figure who contributed greatly to liberation during the resistance struggle, helping several youths who were arrested by Indonesian troops, especially in the municipality of Bobonaro.

MP from the Kmanek Haburas Unidade Nasional Timor Oan (KHUNTO) party, Olinda Guterres, also remembers Isabel Ferreira as the woman who joined Dom Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo and Olandina Caeiro to help the resistance fighters during the Indonesian occupation.

Likewise, Duarte Nunes, MP from the CNRT party, and David Mandati from FRETILIN also expressed their condolences to the Prime Minister and his family on the death of Isabel Ferreira.

While in a statement seen by Tatoli, The President of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Leite Magalhães also expressed A thought of comfort and condolences to the Prime Minister and the grieving family and all the people of Timor-Leste who share in this loss“[Isabel Ferreira’s actions] and her deep commitment to the Human rights, justice and solidarity will forever remain in our memories and hearts” said Magalhães

Isabel da Costa Ferreira (15 April 1974 – 18 June 2023) was a Timorese Jurist, Activist, and politician who was the 2022 female Presidential candidate. Ferreira passed away on june 18, at the age of 49.
