DILI, 24 june 2023 (TATOLI)- World Bank Timor-Leste and the Finance Minister officially launched Timor Leste’s National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) 2023 -2033.
Country Representative of WBTL, Bernard Harborne said the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics is launched to provide technical support to help the National Statistic public institution to ensure that the data can be used by the government and development partners, and civil societies for the implementation of any kind of program.
“We stand firmly with the government of Timor-Leste and recognize the centrality of high-quality official statistic, which is titled of good governance, democracy, and sustainability development,’’ Mr. Bernard Harborne said in his remarks at the launching ceremony in Finance Ministry, Aitarak Laran, Tuesday.
Timor-Leste is still recorded in a list known as a fragile state due to the weakness of statistics.
“WBTL observed that due to the challenges of covid-19, seroja or calamite situation which is required the strong institution to make it done,’’ he said
Minister of Finance, Rui Augusto Gomes said it is privileged to take part in this launching ceremony. It is the most important document that will become guidance for institution development (INETL-I.P in the future.
The documents are contained five important keys to success composed of:
• Intergovernmental commitment at the national and municipal level
• Financial initial priority and financial planning for long term
• Improving National Infrastructure and technology
• Effective approach for the reformed management program
• Coordination Mechanism for international and national partners
The national strategy will guide all government ministries, development partners, and civil societies in the planning of any programs.
The Strategy plan of statistics will carry out any research for 10 years from 2023 to 2033. The research will be carried out for the population census and stricken poverty.
“ I would like to congratulate the INETL.I.P led by Director, Elias Dos Santos Ferreira together with staff for the contribution to conclude this strategic document,’’ He said.
In the last 20 decades, on the decree laws no 3/2023, 15 February, the General Director of Strategic Timor-Leste (INETL) public institution transformed into National Statistic Institution Timor-Leste (INETL).
