DILI, 29 june 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the winning party of 21-may parliamentary election, National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT), Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, accompanied by the CNRT Secretary, Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, the President of the Democratic Party (DP), Mariano Sabino Lopes, and the PD Secretary, António da Conceição, presented the list of members of the IX Constitutional Government to the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta.
When asked about who will be the next prime minister and the members of the next government, Gusmão said that the people will know the new head of government at the inauguration ceremony which will take place on july 1, 2023.
“The public will get to know the new prime minister and his cabinet members at the swearing-in ceremony,” Gusmão said.
Gusmão stressed that the new Government will govern with responsibility, adding it has to cooperate with the Head of State, Parliament, and Civil Society to do what is right to serve the people and the nation: “Those who can’t do the job would have to leave office and go home.”
During the meeting, the coalition parties presented to the Head of State their commitment to making efforts to achieve the goal of ensuring sustainable development that improves the living conditions of the population.
“CNRT and PD have very good cooperation to form a coalition government for the IX Constitutional Government. So, today we are here to exchange ideas and thoughts with President Horta,” Gusmão told reporters after presenting the list to the Head of State at the President’s Palace, in Dili, today.
Gusmão said that the selection of the government members is based on their needs, ability, and experience: “Our commitment is to serve the people, not just to be a minister.”
He said therefore the next government needed a strong team to make changes in order to improve the country.
CNRT and PD formed a coalition with 37 seats, of which 31 were from CNRT and six from PD.
