DILI, 10 july 2023 (TATOLI)- Australian Regional and Remote Community Services (ARRCS) recruited 36 Timorese workers to assist the elderly in Australia.
The recruitment process was done by ARRCS through the Pacific Australia Labor Mobility (PALM) scheme.
“We wish safe travel for those leaving for Australia this week, joining the 12 workers who arrived last week. We hope you will enjoy living and working in Australia’s beautiful Northern Territory. We know you will make a valuable contribution to Australia’s aged care sector, while building skills that will contribute to the development of Timor-Leste on your return.” said the official website of the Australian Embassy in Timor-Leste.
ARRCS carried out the recruitment process for aged care on 25 May 2023 in collaboration with the State Secretariat for Vocational Training and Employment (SoSVTE).
Director General of SEFOPE, Paulo Alves previously explained, recruitment for workers in Aged Care is considered quite different because it requires special skills and experience in serving people.
“As we know in Timor-Leste we don’t have a special certificate for aged care, and this job requires special skills and a mentality for the role in aged care,” he explained.
He specifically mentioned that for Timor-Leste itself Aged Care, work would be devoted to those who graduated from the Department of Nursing, Public Health and had experience in providing the care service to people.
Elderly care is one area of nursing that will continue to grow as Australia’s aging population grows in the next 20-30 years.
This means that a nurse who has high expertise in elderly care will always be needed and this sector will certainly be a promising career in the future. Elderly nurses perform a variety of tasks.
