EU supports 28 Timorese auditors in capacity building on PMFO project

DILI, 11 july 2023 (TATOLI)-The European Union (EU) funded the training of 28 Timorese chamber auditors for the OSAN POVU NIAN, JERE HO DI’AK (PFMO) initiative.

The training actions are part of the PFMO activity plan and are intended to help the Auditors of the Timor-Leste Chamber of Auditors enhance their capacity.

Ambassador of the European Union in Timor-Leste, Marc FIEDRICH, said that he objective of the European Union and the Government of Timor-Leste when they signed the PFMO Financing Agreement was very clear: to support the continuation of the ongoing reforms in Timor-Leste and support the reinforcement of the professional skills of civil servants.

“In this way, this training cycle fits into this essential dimension of training State administration officials, essential so that, independently and autonomously, they can carry out the important functions assigned to them by law.” Ambassador of the European Union, Marc FIEDRICH, said in his speech at the Portuguese Cultural Center in Dili this tuesday.

He went on to say that the training is divided into two parts: “Auditing Programs” and “Auditing Results Manual.”

Two traine were held in Dili to assist 28 Chamber of Auditors trainees in fulfilling with their tasks in financial analysis, asset accounting and certifying accounts, and auditing outcomes and programs.

The Cooperation Attaché of the Embassy of Portugal, Cristina Faustino, stated in the same location that this training is supported by Camões, I.P, and that as the implementer of a delegated cooperation project, it is a privilege to be able to count on the support of the Portuguese Court of Auditors in the design and implementation of the PFMO activity plan with the Chamber of Auditors.

The Portuguese Court of Auditors is a strategic partner in the implementation of the program of activities of the PFMO with the Chamber of Auditors.

President of the Court of Auditors, Judge Counselor José Tavares, said that it is important to mention the manifestation of the availability of the Court of Auditors to maintain and deepen cooperation with the Chamber of Auditors, which has been maintained for 15 years, both bilaterally and in the context of cooperation projects such as the PFMO.

“It has been possible to train the Auditors of the Chamber of Auditors, either with training actions carried out in Portugal, with others carried out in Timor-Leste, or even with technical advisory services that follow the day-to-day of the Chamber of Auditors and Accounts,” he said.

The President of the Court of Appeal/Chamber of Auditors, Counselor Judge Deolindo dos Santos, pointed out that thanks to the PFMO.

This persistent work has yielded excellent results. Our Auditors demonstrate a very significant technical evolution.

It is known that the training was carried out in one week, from july 3 to july 7, 2023.

The Closing Ceremony and Presentation of Certificates to Auditors Who Attended the Training Actions were attended by the European Union’s Ambassador, Marc Fiedrich, the President of Timor-Leste’s Court of Appeal, Judge Counselor Deolindo dos Santos, the Portuguese Embassy’s Adida for Cooperation, Cristina Faustino, and a previously recorded intervention by the President of the Portuguese Court of Auditors, Judge José Tavares.

So far, the OSAN POVU NIAN, JERE HO DI’AK (PFMO) project, supported by the European Union and co-financed and managed by Camões, I.P., held, on the 7th of July, at the Portuguese Cultural Center in Dili, the Closing Ceremony of the Training Program for Auditors of the Timor-Leste Chamber of Auditors, with the support of the Portuguese Court of Auditors.
