Correction: Bilateral cooperation motivates visit of Prime Minister of Portugal to Timor-Leste

Secretary of State for Social Communication, Expedito Dias Ximenes

DILI, July 11, 2023 (TATOLI) – The Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, will visit Timor-Leste, predictably later this month, to discuss bilateral cooperation issues. The information was released by the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Expedito Dias Ximenes, at the Government Palace, where he met with the Ambassador of Portugal, Manuela Bairos, on tuesday.

At the meeting, the partnership between Portugal and Timor-Leste in the area of media was highlighted. Both parties stressed the importance of continuing efforts to train Timorese journalists in Portuguese and to improve technical skills.

“Portugal has a long-standing good cooperation with Timor-Leste in the area of media, so it has plans to continue and eventually strengthen,” said the Ambassador, adding that cooperation in the area of media “makes perfect sense in the context of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries”.

In this regard, Expedito Ximenes said that the bet on young timorese journalists “has been having good results and, therefore, the project between the Government and the Camões Institute should continue”.

This project is the Consultório da Língua para Jornalistas (CLJ) which, since 2015, has trained more than 200 professionals from Timor-Leste.
