DILI, july 14, 2023 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Youth, Sports, Art, and Culture (MYSAC), Nélio Isaac Sarmento, stated that the holding of the XII edition of the International Sports Competition of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries members (CPLP) in the country is dependent on the 2024 General State Budget.
“Regarding the holding of the CPLP sport event, we still have a more detailed discussion since the Government program, including the forecast budget for the event, has not yet been presented to the National Parliament for approval”, he informed journalists after the meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Government Palace, Dili.
Nélio Isaac pointed out that “all programs are included in the Government’s priority plan, but it depends on the presentation plan of the General State Budget for 2024”.
“We are going to make plans to carry out an adequate plan and later communicate with the participating countries about their availability to participate in the game, as the organization committee of the game is the Secretary of the CPLP in Portugal”, he stressed.
It is recalled that at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the previous Government, it was decided to postpone the XII CPLP Games in Timor-Leste due to the international situation caused by the spread of COVID-19.
The event, which was supposed to take place in Timor-Leste between July 10 and 22, 2020, has been postponed to 2024. Every two years, the CPLP games are held to strengthen solidarity among citizens of CPLP countries.
In addition to its sporting nature, the Games are cultural and social representations.
Brazil, Portugal, Cape Verde, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Bissau São Tomé and Principe, Equatorial Guinea, Macau, and Timor-Leste are known Portuguese-speaking countries.
