DILI, july 14, 2023 (TATOLI) -The South Korean government, through its embassy in Timor-Leste, will donate 6,000 Korean learning books to the State Secretariat for Vocational Training and Employment (SoSVTE), with the goal of assisting Timorese youth in learning the Korean language.
“In a very short time, we will receive 6,000 books from the Korean government to facilitate our young people who are taking Korean language courses and are preparing to work in South Korea,” said the National Director for Foreign Workers (NDFW), Filomeno Soares, to Tatoli exclusively at Becora this friday.
The 6,000 books will be delivered to three distinct organizations: 2,000 for the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), 2,000 for the NDFW, and 2,000 for private training facilities that have previously provided Korean language courses.
There are currently 30 private training facilities that have collaborated with SoSVTE and have contributed to Timor-Leste’s manpower supply by responding to increasing calls from South Korea.
“Those who are private, as we know, lack facilities for the training process, so we convey all these obstacles to the South Korean Ambassador, Shin Mantaek, and it turns out that they are given books to support us,” He said.
SoSVTE has continued to rely on the Korean Language Crouse Program (KLCP) to provide Korean language training since its inception in 2009, however in 2019, SoSVTE collaborated with 30 training centers not only in Dili but also in neighboring towns.
This grant from the South Korean government demonstrates the government’s long-standing commitment to an initiative to help young Timorese people find work.
