DILI, 08 august 2023 (TATOLI) – A delegation of an international company from Brunei Darussalam has expressed interest in investing in the minerals, petroleum, and tourism sectors in Timor-Leste.
Stratacom Global expressed its interest in meeting on monday with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco Monteiro.
“Stratacom Global wants to invest in Timor-Leste in the field of tourism in the municipalities of Baucau and Dili. In addition, it is also interested in investing in the minerals, oil, and gas sector”, said Minister Monteiro in a meeting with the representatives of Stratacom Global, in Farol, Dili.
He explained that it was just an introductory discussion, saying that a technical discussion will be held later: “The government will support companies to legalize formal processes that are considered a prerequisite for establishing investment in the country.”
Monteiro hoped that other relevant ministries could facilitate the company in terms of legality and regulation to make it easier for the company to invest in the medium term as the country needed job creation and economic activities for its sustainability.
Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Abel Guterres, also explained that Stratacom Global is committed to investing in the country.
“We hope that all the formal processes can be realized soon so that the company can mobilize its equipment. The company and its partners are interested in investing, but it depends on the alignment of interests of the Government in relation to the areas in which it wants to invest.”
