PM Xanana calls on Timorese to respect Tais as indigenous identity

DILI 25 august 2023 (TATOLI)- At the launching of the Tais expedition, the Prime Minter of Timor–Leste called to young Timorese to respect Tais as a symbol of indigenous heritage and represent Timorese identity, saying Timorese should not forget the root and originality of Timorese culture.

“I congratulate everybody participating in this initiative. I thank partners such as UNISCO, Alola Foundation, Timor Aids, and other partners who are coming from abroad to help us. We are proud to promote and preserve our tradition,’’ Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão said in his remarks, at the launching Tais Exposition ceremony, in Pantai Kepala, on Friday.

Secretary of State for Art and Culture (SoSAC) has the responsibility to prepare the Timorese Tais as souvenirs and other original art to promote at the international level.

Gusmão said that the ALOLA Foundation initiated the responsibility for the Timorese women’s group for weaving Tais and introduced it to the Timorese people to continue promoting and preserving the Tais.

“I appreciate GAMBEL and Lezeball young Timorese traditional and drama groups promoting Timorese culture and Tais,’’ Xanana said.

In the same place, Secretary of State for Art and Culture, Jorge Soares Cristóvão said Timorese Tais is a recognized as world heritage that must be protected and preserved.

“It is a great effort to bring Timorese Tais as culture patrimony. Timor-Leste is recognized as an active UNESCO member,’’ He said

UNISCO has recognized Tais as a patrimony material and immaterial as it is the eternal heritage of Timorese decedents.
