DILI, 22 september 2023 (TATOLI)- the Ambassador of Portugal in Timor-Leste, Maria Manuela Freitas Barros, today conducted a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and discussed the various cooperation in the sector of defense.
Ambassador Barros said this visit aimed to congratulate the new Minister of Defense Force, Donacio C. Gomes ‘ Pedro Klamar Fuik’, and also discussed the future bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
“Portugal and Timor-Leste have been the brotherhood for a long time and Portugal has supported the capacity building training and sent a few members of F-FDTL to join the military training in Portugal including support equipment to Timor – Leste Defense Force (F-FDTL),” the Ambassador of Portugal Maria Manuela Freitas Barros, told reporters in the Ministry of Defense, Fatuhada Dili on friday.
Barros, confirms’s Portugal commitment to continue the cooperation which had been done so far and is willing to support the program of MoD to strengthen the F-FDTL in the future.
At the same place the Minister of Defense Donacio C. Gomes ‘ Pedro Klamar Fuik’ on behalf of the Government thanked the Ambassador for the visit to MoD’s office.
“I thanked the Ambassador for the visit to discuss the future cooperation to intensify the cooperation program in the defense sector especially capacity building training of F-FDTL and the other support,” He said.
He said Portugal is also committed to continuing sending the members of F-FDTL to Portugal to join the exercise training and academic military training, including support the capacity building and related support to improve the professionalism of F-FDTL in serving the state and the people of Timor – Leste in the future.
